Is the network card working? As root type ifconfig . There should be a eth0 there. If not, then you may need to dig a little deeper as to why it is not there. But if you do see eth0, then I would try and ping the ip address that is on the adapter. Let us know what you find out. This should get you a good starting point. -- Marshall "Nothing is impossible, we just do not have all the answers to make the impossible, possible."

Adress marked XXX for security reasons (or em i paranoid?). But the adresses are exactly the same as on the working laptop. And as i tríed to say in the previous message, ping the card is OK, ping the Loopback is OK, but gateway nada on the desktop. On the laptop the gateway pings ok too. Both running 9.0. When i boot up i see 'SHH Deamon = Fail' does that matter anything? all oter Done. When i get this to work i WILL get a spell checker :-) # ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:90:96:29:AB:A0 inet addr:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX Bcast:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX Mask:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX inet6 addr: fe80::290:96ff:fe29:aba0/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:100 RX bytes:0 (0.0 Kb) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b) Interrupt:05 Base address:0x9800 Memory:e9000000-e9020000 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:381 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:381 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:39232 (38.3 Kb) TX bytes:39232 (38.3 Kb) # route -n Kernel IP routing table Shows exatly the same as the laptop that works. # /etc/resolv.conf bash: /etc/resolv.conf: denied //Andy
YaST --> Network Devices and check that everything is correctly set, IP address, route/gateway. ifconfig and route -n and /etc/resolv.conf will also tell you if you have all the pieces in place. Regards Sid. Anders Lundin wrote:
