Composer (window) -> Options (menu) -> Automatic Spellchecking
Thanks, Jerome

Thanks Randall, I found the Composer window. In that widow there are some tabs but no Option menu. Please advise, Jerome

Looks like you used settings > configure kmail > composer. Try opening a new message

Try opening a new message (composer) window instead and do as Randall suggested. Doug

Thanks Doug and Randall, I found it. It works when replying to the list or fowarding a message. It does not work on original composer messages though. The misspelling goes red for an instant and then is replaced by black text-sometimes. Or, if I toggle Automatic Spellchecking then any misspelled text turns red but if I hit the space bar or type a letter it all turns black again. I'm using Kmail 1.7.1 and KDE 3.3.1. Jerome

Look at the status line at the lower margin of the composition window. When the number of misspellings exceeds some threshold, as-you-type spelling detection is disabled.
I'm using Kmail 1.7.1 and KDE 3.3.1. Jerome

I'm not sure what you found, but if there is no Options menu, it's not a KMail message composition window. The window I'm referring to is the one in which you compose KMail messages. It has eight menus: Message, Edit, View, Options, Attach, Tools, Settings and Help.
Please advise, Jerome
