Well the only thing I can suggest is to try it without X-cdroast. Use it maybe to write the iso file, but then use the cdrecord command itself to write the cd. I've always had trouble with xcdroast, but never with cdrecord. cdrecord -v -dummy -eject speed=4 dev=0,0,0 image.iso the dummy switch just gives you a dry run without a real burn, good for debugging If that gives you problems, make sure your cdwriter is setup for ide-scsi, append="hdd=ide-scsi" in lilo.conf (someone else may be able to help you with grub) -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation

What is that t[A ??? Is there some kindof encoding problem between us? Or is that the name of your iso file?
cdrecord -v -dummy -eject speed=4 dev=0,0,0 [K/te mp/track-01.img
What is [K/te mp ???

You need to have a blank cd in there, even with dummy mode. Try it with a different blank too. Sometimes they are bad blanks. Also, are your blanks the right speed for your burner? I don't think you can put 40X blanks in a 4X burner.
Any ideas guys? JIM
Yeah, try it again with a blank cd in the drive. If you DID have a blank cd in the drive, then go get the latest version of cdrecord and compile it yourself. Quite a few of the cdrecord binaries which I got from SuSE distros don't work right on my machine. Maybe you are having the same problem. At first I thought it was the RIAA shenanigans, but now I don't know.....I just know that if you compile your own cdrecord, it will work better. :-) Also the latest versions have alot of improvements for ide burners. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation

Jim, I would like to be giving you a better answer than this, but I think you may just have an incompatible cdrw drive. Mitsumi does not support Linux and will not offer any help. I know some here have gotten some models to work with Linux, but most will not. I remember going thru the same thing when trying two different models of Mitsumi drives. I exchanged them for some Acer drives and have been happy since. As with VCRs, so it is with cd drives as well. There are only about 3 actual makers of the drives in the world and of course many use their own brand name over the makers. My suggestion to you is to try another cdrw, if possible or take that one back and exchange it for a different type/model/brand.
