-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 SuSE 9.0 on my laptop Linksys WPC11 V3 card Attaching to a Linsys Wireless router I posted this over the weekend, but no reply. Right now, the system is recognizing that the card is in place and is trying to load drivers. I'm seeing the following messages in the system log: cardmgr[1171] executing './network start wlan0' /sbin/hotplug[3373] no runnable /etc/hotplug/wlan-agent is installed ifup: No configuration found for wlan-pcmcia-1 wlan0 /etc/hotplug.net.agent[3383]: interface wlan0 is handled by service PCMCIA...exiting I *THOUGHT* I had set up the configuration in YAST, but obviously not correctly. Can someone point me at what I'm missing? Have You set ESSID, etc.? Possibel it's not running, because you forgot it. And - can you ping your w-lan-card? Or is there an interrupt-problem with your other cards? (See Hardware-Details in Yast). Andreas

Yes. That part was done (I believe) correctly. Thanks for the reply. send us what you get in /etc/sysconfig/network/if* files and .../wireless -- Marek Chlopek

Here they are in a tar.bz file. the file "wireless" came from /etc/sysconfig/network. The file wireless2 came from /etc/pcmcia/wireless. I really appreciate any and all help. Networking is not my strong suit, and I do want to learn. When I get this going, I'll try to put together a step by step set of instructions to submit to the unofficial FAQ. Note that I have (hopefully temporarily) disabled WEP on my Linksys Router. I want to turn it back on, but thought that it would be wise to simply get Wireless Networking up in a vanilla format first. I *DO* want to secure the network, but that can wait until it can at least talk to the router. why do you have ifcfg for two wlan cards? do your eth0 and wlan get their config data from dhcp? I have had the same problem: eth0 and wlan had tried to be configured by dhcp. unfortunately modify_resolve is not able to backup resolve file when getting the second dhcp response (see your logs in /var/log/messages). you should try to remove eth0 and boot only with one wlan card. if you want to use sometimes eth0 and sometimes wlan, as I do, use profiles (scpm). it is easy to configure, but don't use yast - use command line. I have an on-board ethernet card which I use at some client sites. The Linksys card is for use at my site.

I tried that. Still doesn't come up - althought the log messages changed (I attached that section of messages. I note that there is a message "No runnable /etc/hotplug wlan.agent is installed." I have no idea how to address this.

Probably a good idea ... can you direct me to something on *HOW* to however. I'm afraid that I've relied far too much on Yast. I need to correct this deficiency.
