Yeah HP seems to be committed but if u have a user/customer who has say a Lexmark Z31 or something like that there isn't a driver specific for them. But then again I believe CUPs may support this printer.. UUUMMMM.......Haven't tried that.... -----Original Message----- From: Anders Johansson [mailto:andjoh@cicada.linux-site.net] Sent: Thursday, June 21, 2001 5:33 PM To: Fred A. Look at this http://www.hp.com/products1/linux/printers_and_linux.html HP says they're 'commited to linux as a strategic resource' and that they're spending money on linux development, and at the moment I see no direct reason to doubt them Regards Anders On Thursday 21 June 2001 22:23, Fred A. Lexmark supplies Linux drivers for ALL of their laser printers and MOST others!! Check out below the statement from HP (in part) from their site!

Hewlett-Packard is not supplying printer drivers for the Linux environment at this time, June of 2000."

The way they word the stuff on the Sun site, I would say they are basically the same. The version you can download from Sun can probably be thought of as StarOffice 6.x Alpha or Beta. Quote from http://www.sun.com/software/star/openoffice/faqs.html ------------------------ How does OpenOffice.org relate to the StarOffice branded product? On a regular basis, Sun will take a snapshot of the OpenOffice.org source code base, bundle it up with third-party functionality using an API/plug-in layer per the Sun Industry Standards Source License (SISSL), and ship it as the StarOffice branded product. We must emphasize that Sun's innovations will be contributed directly into the open CVS tree and will not be kept private. Our goal with the StarOffice software is simply to make it the premier branded implementation of OpenOffice.org technology available. ------------------------- Clayton
