[SLE] Xfree 4 install errors
Perusing the ftp site this morning and noticed the new xfree4 rpm set. Well it didn't take me long to download and install using Yast. Strange thing is the several errors are reported on booting the system, the wmlist file had to be edited manually as Sax does not untar it properly, leaves a (+) mark on every line. Running Sax and reconfiguring all values, results in the backspace key not being mapped, everything else worked fine. Booting into root, x comes up rather slower that expected. Based on the news I was expecting a snappier launch. OK we can live with this. Booting into a user account give me a fatal error, no connection to server, and a notation not to run the server using suid permissions with a recommendation to use a wrapper or xdm. Strange. I thought yast would all configure this as usual. Im sure I did something wrong as I cant assume these packages are broken but Im at a loss here. The install procedure was text book. Boot into root, run yast, install apps, from the ftp install mode, all original files backed up (and reinstalled now) download and install went clean. No errors. Hmm any indications or suggestions what is the issue here?
