Enabling graphical user interface (GUI) after FTP installation?
I managed to install SuSE Linux 9.0 without any problems, but it seems that the GUI is not enabled. Although all Gnome related packages have been installed succesfully, only a concole based system is displayed. First I thought that I should configure the system with Yast, but I was unable to find anything related to the GUI. Do you know how to enable GUI? Regards Sami

Log in as root and try running # yast Then under System > Runlevel editor make sure your runlevel is set to 5 It's possible also you have not configured X (the library of programs that give the GUI for GNU/Linux). Then X will not start. You can configure it with (as root) # sax2 You may need to know some details about your graphics card, monitor and mouse. You can also test X using (as any user) # startx This can be helpful in diagnosing what went wrong if X was not configured properly. If X does not work, you may see the screen flash a few times and some messages get printed to the console. -- JDL Non enim propter gloriam, diuicias aut honores pugnamus set propter libertatem solummodo quam Nemo bonus nisi simul cum vita amittit.
