rt2500 wlan on SUSE 10.0.42 (alpha3)
I could not get my rt2500 compatible wlan card detected by SUSE10 release version plus that it failed to install GRUB or LILO, so I switched to the development version (alpha3). This one does install correctly, but still the wlan card is not detected. It should be precompiled in the kernel, so it should work anyway. When I had installed Ubuntu 5.10 it did see the card immediately (just had to activate it) so I am sure that the card is correctly plugged in the PCI port (port 4 in my case). Any ideas? Weird...
My rt2500 cards (one PCI in my PC, one PCMCIA for my notebook) are detected automatically and work
flawlessly on 10.0.
The driver is GPL and included in the distribution's kernel.
Must be something fishy there...
cheers

problem solved
I installed SUSE 10.0 as update over 10.0.42 and then the card was
immediately recognized.

Just want to note that it is not present in the SMP kernel (for us P4 HT folks). This took me a while to realize, I am currently running a non-SMP kernel (detected without problems, albeit silentlly) but would like to switch back. No tips by any chance how i would enable the module in the standard suse 10 SMP kernel? Cheers Dirk PS: sorry if Im piggybacking, i will repost if necessary

If you look at the sources for this driver, you'll see that the compile is explicitly disabled for SMP. Usually that means it's broken in some way, so you can't get it until someone steps up to fix it
