[opensuse] CD ripping tool
The ripping tool I used previously is no longer being maintained by the author. I was hopping for suggestions on ripping tools that can be initiated from the command line. Many of the CDs I previously had made digital copies of have been lost. All of my Bach:-( Don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I liked it, too. The last time I used it was on oS:13.1 about a year ago. It's in oS:Dropped [0], but maybe it still builds ... yes, at least mkubecek's branch does [1][2]. I have had a lot of trouble with Linux audio since it became so complicated. I installed grip, loaded a CD but could not get it to play. This list of tracks shows correctly. But when I click on the play track button, disk spins up, track number an elapsed time appear, but no audio out. Kmix says that there "Nothing is playing audio". Any ideas on how to connect the output of grip to the rest of the audio chain? Thanks, don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Are you sure it is supposed to connect the audio chain? Rippers typically write files, and don't play the audio, because they are usually ripping at high speed. In any event, that setting would be in grip, so check its man pages or help pages. It doesn't seem like its going to be any generic setting in linux or KDE. -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

There does not appear to be a man page. But there is a toggle volume control button at the bottom of the GUI. So I assumed it would output audio. I may be wrong. It has been many years since I used grip and do not remember all of the details. Thanks for the suggestions. You can thank Poettering for that (among his other 'accomplishments') to make our lives difficult... see http://yokozar.org/blog/content/linuxaudio.png On 12/03/15 15:53, don fisher wrote:

I use morituri. A confusing name, as the command line program is called rip. http://thomas.apestaart.org/morituri/trac/ It's in packman as well as the Leap repos. Bob -- Bob Williams System: Linux 4.1.12-1-default Distro: openSUSE 42.1 (x86_64) with KDE Development Platform: 4.14.10

I use k3b.
Does k3b also play CD's so one can review them as you rip? I did not see this option. Thanks Don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Typically not. It rips at faster than playback speed unless you force it not to. It will typically rip a cd of music is just a few minutes. It will even rip more than one track in parallel if your machine has the processors to do so. Not much point in "reviewing" them as you rip, its not like you have to suddenly take control to fix anything. If you don't like the track you can delete it later. -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
