Hello, I want to add Gnome to my SuSE 8 installation. Now I just have KDE. What is the best way to do that ?? Install packages one by one, or is there a easyer way ???? If you have the SuSE 8.0 cd's just use YaST 2 for this. Choose Software -> System Update. Then choose to install Gnome core package and other additional packages ypu want.
Best way would be to grab the packages from ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/GNOME and install them To do this, stick all the packages from the base and applications directories into a single directory and run rpm -Uvh *.rpm Then you can keep your applications up to date from www.usr-local-bin.org

Thanks Richard, I have tried to install Gnome 2 in 2 different ways. Below I have listed the fruits of both attempts and a list of the packages that I am working with.Could someone please tell me the best way to accomplish this task or what I am doing wrong? Thanks, Tony Gloster suse_user@progredior.com Track 1. Suggested by James Ogley I got all the packages from ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/GNOME2/update_for_8.0 and copied all the packages from the applications and the base directories into a single directory. After resolving several dependancy issues, this is what I get when I attempt to run 'rpm -Uvh *.rpm' ---------------------------------------- puella:/home/alg2/gnome2 # rpm -Uvh *.rpm file /usr/lib/rep/i386-suse-linux/sawfish/client.so from install of sawfish2-2.0.0611-6 conflicts with file from package sawfish-1.0.1-87 -------------------------------------------------------------------- What should I do to solve this issue? ******************************************************************** _____________________Track Seperator________________________________ Track 2. Suggested by Richard Bos I went to: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=35354 and under section "0.01 SuSE-7.3 Bin Pkgs" I found the required rpms for APT. If you're not going to use gnome1 you can always "rpm -e sawfish" before you install the new version. //Anders -- `When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, `it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less.'
