Dear Sirs, I have a Linux Suse 8.1 Proffessional Operating system. System : Pentium 4 Modem : US Robotics External modem. I want to connect through my modem to my ISP. Only to browse web and E mail. My Internet Provider gave me following details, User name : paashraf@saudionline.com.sa Password : xxxxxxxx Dialing No: 3603600 Proxy : proxy.saudionline.com.sa Mail : mail.saudionline.com.sa Through YaST control centre I setup my modem connection. Modem in seriel port COM1, so I choose /dev/ttyS0. My modem gives dialing tune and Its working. In connection parameters I select 'stupid Mode'. I dialed to connect Internet, I could not connect. (1) Turn debugging on in smpppd by uncommenting the line: debug = yes in /etc/smpppd.conf and restart the daemon by using: rcsmpppd restart to get extra logging. In a konsole, man pppd, scroll waaaay down and you get this: 10 The PPP negotiation failed, that is, it didn't reach the point where at least one network protocol (e.g. IP) was running. I'm not exactly sure what this means, but maybe their server is down, and that's why your system can't 'talk' to theirs to connect? Possibly the wrong phone number to dialup? Do you have to use long distance when you dial from your home?
