Configuring syslog to add message ID and facil.pri to log entries
By default, solaris adds a syslog message ID and facility/priority field to each log entry like so: Jan 14 09:16:51 back-0202 tldcd[11643]: [ID 359804 daemon.notice] TLD(0) opening robotic path /dev/sg/c3t0l0 To change this behavior on solaris requires a reboot and Sun also recommends not disabling this feature. So this causes problems when I have a syslog box with logs from scads of different OS's and devices. Since we parse logfiles and shove them into oracle this creates a problem. What I want to do is configure my SLES 9 systems to add this field to the syslog entries. Can this be done? Thx, cc

It's not SuSE issue as such, but a matter for the syslog package. I don't know off the top of my head if it's doable, but if not, you could always take a look at syslog-ng. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.com/freetrial - sign up for your free 30-day trial now!
