Where are the RPMs? Is this a new install, or adding things to an existing install? -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Kapellgränd 7 P.O. I want to install some GUI tools for MySQL. OpenSuse/Software has a MySQL Gui Install but it is like tiny 330kb or so. I also downloaded the MySQL GUI install tarball from the MYSQL site which is 32 MB. I was just wondering if I needed internet connectivity to install any of these. -----Original Message----- From: Roger Oberholtzer [mailto:roger@opq.se] Sent: 13 May 2008 02:38 PM To: opensuse@opensuse.org Subject: Re: [opensuse] RPM Question On Tue, 2008-05-13 at 14:32 +0200, Cornelius Franken wrote:

You can either (1) as root, run: rpm -i file.rpm where file.rpm is what you have on your disk, or (2) click on the RPM to install in konqueror (supplying a password as needed). It is possible that you may need additional rpms to satisfy dependencies. If so, they may need to be installed first in the exact same way. rpm does not do this automatically. Thus the reason for YaST/zypper/smart. You can first do a 'dry run' top see is the install will work with: rpm -i --test file.rpm This will list any failed dependencies so you can get and install them first. I think you could also put them in a directory and tell YaST/zypper/smart about the directory, and then install from these programs. They may ease the dependency issue.

If the rpm is on your machine yes no problem. Also right click in kde offers the option to install with yast. Or launch an rpm. The contents will be displayed and a button offers installation with yast. Any dependencies need to be on the local machine /dvd etc too. If you have the file on the machine, why would you require an internet connection to open up and process an RPM file? Do you understand what an RPM file is? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
