[opensuse] "Wrong" module loaded..
So, the controller is installed, but the hardware autodetection insists to load the sata_mv module for it. I want to have the correct one, hptmv, installed, but I really don't see where I should edit to make this happen. I can't daddy the system to unload and load manually after each reboot. Advice, please... -- Anders Norrbring Norrbring Consulting

Use "/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist", or modprobe.conf.local - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Hmm.. How would that help? I was thinking more in the line of setting it up in YaST pci_id somehow, for HAL to use it? If I blacklist the sata_mv module, it won't load the right one anyway.. Right? -- Anders Norrbring Norrbring Consulting

I haven't the foggiest idea about how to do that. However... Bugzilla? The system should do the correct thing, and it doesn't, so, report it. Meanwhile, hack it up so that it works for you.

It won't load the wrong one, at least! ;-) Then, it might figure out the correct one, or maybe not. Then, you can force loading the correct one by any of the usual manners: /etc/init.d/boot.local, or /etc/sysconfig/kernel (MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT). - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I don't find hptmv on my system, so I'm guessing this is a third party driver you want to use instead of the shipping open source driver, right? So the "solution" isn't something that needs to apply to everyone, just to your system What you can do, in /etc/modprobe.conf.local, is to say install sata_mv modprobe hptmv Thus, when the system tries to load the sata_mv module, the hptmv module will get loaded instead -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

What you can do, in /etc/modprobe.conf.local, is to say
install sata_mv modprobe hptmv
Thus, when the system tries to load the sata_mv module, the hptmv module will get loaded instead
That's an idea.. I'll try that one. No, hptmv is the driver distributed by Highpoint, but it's open source, so I guess it's just a matter of time until it's in the kernel distro?
