Hello,
Just wondering if fb support is compiled into the stock kernel. I saw Philipp's posting re: the G400 and started playing around but it doesn't look like it is compiled in. When frame buffer support was first added to the kernel (2.2?) I was using RH and re-compiled to take advantage of it. Do I need to recompile with SuSE also?
VESA FB is, but Matrox FB is not. By some miracle, my i810 workstation here at work has been replaced by an Athlon 550 with an ATI Rage XL AGP card. I've noticed that the 2.2 series kernel has a frame buffer for ATI cards, too...suppose I have some reading to do today ;).
I can't even seem to get the VESA FB going. I've got VGA=ASK in my lilo.conf but when I re-boot none of the numbers I enter are valid. I try to ask for the modes and I only get a list of the text modes. What do I need to do to use the VESA FB? My /etc/lilo.conf file: # LILO Konfigurations-Datei # Start LILO global Section # If you want to prevent console users to boot with init=/bin/bash, # restrict usage of boot params by setting a passwd and using the option # restricted. #passwd=bootpwd #restricted boot=/dev/hda compact # faster, but won't work on all systems. vga = 791 # 1024x768@16-bit read-only prompt timeout=100 # End LILO global Section # image = /boot/vmlinuz root = /dev/hda6 label = linux # other = /dev/hda3 label = win table = /dev/hda # image = /boot/stock root = /dev/hda6 label = stock -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | Kansas City, MO /\\ 816-241-2641 x107 | http://www.atipa.com _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Read /usr/src/linux/Documentation/fb/vesafb.txt. It explains what you have
to do. For 1024x768 64k colors you'ld use something like
vga=0x317
append="video=vesa:ywrap,mtrr"
call lilo and on the next bootup you'll get a framebuffer console and a
penguin (actually it's one penguin per CPU :).
