sounds a bit like as if you would run SuSEconfig?? disable it in the config file (yast -> system administration -> Change configuration file -> ENABLE_SUSECONFIG -> NO). (rant) SuSEconfig messes up a lot of settings, I don't understand why. E.g., what is wrong in 'echo passwd as one star', why does it need to be set to 'no echo' every time one is running SuSEconfig ??? You can set permissions from secure to easy to accomplish this (Yast>System Administration>Security Settings), or even better to change the settings for the individual file in /etc/permissions.secure, as this will allow you the functionality you desire without opening a security risk -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris "All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Check out /etc/permissions.local . Edit whatever to do whatever you want, without having to disable the entire SuSEconfig permissions checker (which can be useful at certain times). -- noodlez: Karol Pietrzak PGP KeyID: 0x3A1446A0
