sounds a bit like as if you would run SuSEconfig?? disable it in the config file (yast -> system administration -> Change configuration file -> ENABLE_SUSECONFIG -> NO). (rant) SuSEconfig messes up a lot of settings, I don't understand why. E.g., what is wrong in 'echo passwd as one star', why does it need to be set to 'no echo' every time one is running SuSEconfig ???
