Can anyone tell me what the best SCSI Adapter around $50 - $150 for linux is???? -- Thanks in advance, Stefan -------------------------------------------------------------- Linux a world without borders, fences, windows and gates..... Titanic98 "Which computer do you want to sink today????"
Hummm, depends upon what you are doing (speed)....if it is for attaching Scanners or such an older speed SCSI-wide will be in your range, if you have a need for LVD2 or SCSI-160, like for Hard discs then you want an Adaptec 29160. You may find an OEM (no box) Adaptec for a little more than your range. I bought a u160 Adaptec that has a 50pin out on the external and has the internal 68 pin for 30% less than the one with 68pin int&ext....guess they sell less of them or something. Got some troubles with my old AHA1542 SCSI card and my 2.4.2 kernel, so i need to replace it. It hangs my system only hard reboot possible, it worked under 6.4 and 2.2.18. Use it for my SCSI CD-ROM and SCANNER....... Been looking at adaptec but no AVA card's seem to be supported under 7.1. -- Thanks in advance, Stefan -------------------------------------------------------------- Linux a world without borders, fences, windows and gates..... before switching please try the (latest suse 2.4) kernel in ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mantel/next/ please tell us if that solves the problem.

Depends on what devices you want to connect. A Fast or Wide SCSI 50 pin card is well within your price range, however a dual channel Ultra Wide 160 would exceed your range. I have two machines with Advansys SCSI cards (I think they are 940's) with 50 pin connector that are used for scanning and external CD writer. The Advansys cards are usually $10-15 cheaper than Adaptec. I have used these Advansys cards since SuSE 6.2 to 7.1 and the cards and SuSE have worked great. I think Advansys has recently changed to become Connectcom. For higher speed I use a LSI-Logic SYM8951(was Symbios) for the hard drives. It also works great with SuSE. Might be pushing your $150 price limit though. Price wise the LSI-Logic card is the same price or slightly less than a comparable Adeptec. For installation SuSE 7.1 recognizes both cards and everything is setup automatically, no hassles. For some earlier versions of SuSE, I think you have to specifically load the modules. Based on my experiences the Advansys and LSI-Logic cards work well with SuSE. Ralph Sanford - If your government does not trust you, rsanford@telusplanet.net - should you trust your government?
