Hi there, I am using 8.1 and was wondering if it is possible like in earlyer versions of YAST to save the package selection to a plain text file (package.usr) so when i would like to install another workstation with the same package selection i don't have to go through all packages again. Can anyone help me with this ? With kind regards Jan van Roessel

I have seen postings from other users about their installation and usage of SuSE Linux 8.1 for quite some time now. The official release date of the version was October 7th. SuSE has promised the Danish dealers shippings with the version arriving in Denmark within week 41. This was later changed to week 42. Now we are entering week 44. This is not the first time SuSE is dragging Danish dealers around by their noses. In fact it´s the same scenario each and every time SuSE releases a new version. What´s going on? It would be nice, of course, to hear from a SuSE insider on this. Best regards, David List

I've ordered 8.1 via a Swedish reseller (http://www.linuxshop.nu/) but haven't got it yet. Another Swedish reseller (http://www.lindist.se/) has recently announced shipment in week 44. The problem is not Denmark-specific. -- Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se

Sweden... Linuxstore.se is where I ordered. It finally arrived this past Thursday. Then again, I kept bugging them, and they kept bugging their distributor. They know how vital a new SuSE distro is for the good of mankind. :-P Joe

I ordered from the same place, and if I recall correctly even on the same day. It was delivered today. Anders

I ordered 8.1 online from http://store.suse.com/ on 2002-10-08 and received it on 2002-10-15 via UPS (about $10 shipping charge). This was in the USA, and in English. It's no surprise that the online operation gets first crack at the products. I didn't even look in the local retailers; I just assumed they wouldn't have it for a long time. James F. Hello! I'm not a SUSE insider; but I found this a bit "funny", as I have for at least a couple of weeks - I think - been looking at SUSE 8.1 "shrinkwraped" boxes in my local bookstore! "Akademika" at the Blinderen campus of the university of Oslo. (UiO is else a pure Redhat shop for linux usage on its own computers (but most use win95 or w2k-XP) but Akademika does sell SUSE). It may be that Norway is considdered a "stronger" market these days? I mean, our "krone" is becoming a realy hard currency compared to Denmark and Sweden ;-) I think I will pick up a box next weekend and upgrade my 7.3 installation :-) with regards larsf
This feature is missing in 8.1 We had the topic also in the german version of this mailing list and figured out, that the only thing which is now available is a packetgroup called autoyast. It's really a nice tool - but a bit complex. The tutorial for autoyast is located under /usr/share/doc/packages/autoyast2/html/index.html It takes some time to read all the stuff - but it's worth...
