PXEBOOT Install of 8.1
Can some kind soul please point me in the right direction for doing an over-the-wire netboot/netinstall of 8.1? Thanks in advance... --Jerry Open-Source software isn't a matter of life or death... ...It's much more important than that!
Jerry, This is not for the faint hearted... There are many ways to accomplish this. Here are some web sites that will help you. You may also want to look into autoyast2 which SuSE is developing (from what I read you can... http://syslinux.zytor.com/ http://www.ltsp.org/ http://www.tldp.org (some useful stuff here as well - Howto's and FAQ's) The you can either image (like ghost) or go automated installs... Auto Yast2 http://www.suse.de/~nashif/autoinstall/8.1/html/installation.process.html http://www.suse.de/~nashif/autoinstall/8.1/autoyast2.pdf Imaging http://www.partimage.org/ http://www.systemimager.org/ On the imaging side you will have to write some scripts to do partitioning - try GNU parted. You can then write scripts to change names and IP's or use dhcp and DNS to provide that info - useful for large quantities of desktops or servers with the same hardware and function. It's also quicker to get up and running I think than autoyast2 but I haven't delved too deeply into autoyast2. A bit cryptic but there is a lot to consider and read - this should at least get you going in the right direction.
