Hi, recently I upgraded to SuSE 8.0. This one comes with XFree86 4.1.0 which should be able to use the 3d capabilities of my video card, an ATI Rage 128 pro. Still I can't run 3d packages like Tuxkart and so. I just upgraded to XFree86 4.2.0, but it still won't work. 3dconfig tells me I need to install xf86_glx, but I do not have that package, I can't install it with YaST2 as suggested. I have installed all the mesastuff, except for the -devel packages. In YaST, I can checkmark the box for 3d support, but every time when I get back there, it is removed again. How do I get my computer to use the 3d capabilities of my video card? Thanks, Vinay

Wrong, 8.0 comes with 4.2 joe@jmorris:~> rpm -q xf86 xf86-4.2.0-107 If your upgrade didn't upgrade, use your dislks (or ftp).
which should be able to use the 3d capabilities of my video card, an ATI Rage 128 pro.
It can. I have a Rage 128 Fury, which is older.

Download it from the ftp site if you didn't upgrade from the CDs, or better still as the packages are newer there.

You should uninstall all the mesa stuff as there is drivers for your card in 4.2

Try ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/8.0/suse/ and check out the x, xap, and xdev directories. -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM. Thank you, it works! Now I've to just figure out how to play these games. Joe & Sesil Morris (NTM) wrote:

It is in ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/8.0/suse/x3d1. I've got xf86-4.2.0-64 and xf86_glx-4.2.0-107. I hope that won't give any problems.
