"Suse 10" includes some non-free software (I am not sure how many/what exactly - you can find more information from previous threads). -Jukka

There is no such thing as OpenSUSE 10.0 There is only SUSE 10.0. The different ISO.s are OSS version contains mainly OSS software and is available for free download. The retail version is only available via the shops. But both are called SUSE 10.0 Differences are here: http://disruptive.org.uk/20051011.packages/10-boxdvd-10-boxcd.html http://disruptive.org.uk/20051011.packages/10-boxdvd-10-ossftp.html Hope this helps Andreas

Yes. openSUSE 10.0 does not exist. (Hey, others have already posted the answer. This is why we need a forum .... questions like that usually only get asked once in a proper forum ;) Andreas

search for "FAQ" at the opensuse.org search field, you'll find: http://www.opensuse.org/Users_FAQ and http://www.opensuse.org/Frequently_Asked_Questions Many answers can be found there! BTW: I still recommend to merge these both FAQ pages to avoid confusion. At least, show a link to the user_FAQ somewhere. -- Dr. Martin Sommer Product Manager Consumer Products SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstraße 5, D-90409 Nürnberg Phone: +49 (0) 911 740 530 Fax: +49 (0) 911 740 53 575 Email: martin.sommer@suse.com ----------------------------------------------------------

Why would someone bother searching the forum if they can't bothered searching the archive nor the web and didn't read the FAQ. (just an observation). /Per Jessen, Zürich

A forum is more flexible, you can have postit with more commons questions or what ever you want and i think is easier to search. -- Marcel Mourguiart

the point appears not to be the degree of difficulty, but the lack of effort, ie: no effort. If a person is not going to try to search, difficulty is irrelevant. forum = ease ??????? -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2

Yes but in a forum at least you can answer a common question with a link to the part where those question have been answer in the forum. Probably you can say that we can do the same here, but you don´t see many links in the answers, do you ?? at least not pointing to the list, maybe that's because is a little more difficult to do, so the normal answers is: " We talk about that before just search the mail ", which is stupid if the question come from a new user. -- Marcel Mourguiart

Maybe in some ways, but it usually requires you to log on - which doesn't spell flexible to me.

easier than googling? Just in case - I _am_ thoroughly opposed to the use of webforums, but I am also fully prepared to listen to anyone with a _solid_ argument for webforums. (which I think should be called webfora). /Per Jessen, Zürich

I am personaly also not a fan user of web forums. If other people prefer them, I would say, fine, go ahead. As I see it, it will keep a lot of first time users out of the mailinglist, wich then can concentrate on development. houghi -- Quote correct (NL) http://www.briachons.org/art/quote/ Zitiere richtig (DE) http://www.afaik.de/usenet/faq/zitieren Quote correctly (EN) http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html
We really dont need this discussion again.
Fact is we need & any user not wanting to join a list
or RTFM .. needs a forum for some "interactive" help.
Fact also is that some here hate the idea of a forum
..
but that doesnt change the fact that we are still in
need of a main big central openSuSE/SuSE/Novell forum.
Someone is dealing with this as far as I know .. just
have to wait I guess.
:-)

We really dont need this discussion again.
Maybe we should have an opensuse-webforum@opensuse.org mailing list :-) I think everyone will be happy when we get a webforum, even the people who don't like them, just so we can stop talking about it on the mailing list. Pflodo.
: ) I like that idea .

Could we please terminate any dicussion on web forums, now? It doesn't really help anyone to discuss this over and over again - we will simply have to wait until we get the chance to assess the imporved Novell forums [1]. Again, we definitely understand the severity of this issue and are keen to solve it as soon as possible. Regards Christoph [1] http://lists.opensuse.org/archive/opensuse/2005-Oct/1148.html
