Is there anything that resembles the 1980 style game that will compile on 8.1? Or an rpm? The first two pages on google just don't go.

Not seeing this but would love to have it too, my teen age game :) You may consider xGalaga, which is available since 7.x that I can remember, I enjoy the game, only thing is the scale (resolution) is a bit small, only good for 640x480 and maybe 800x600, it is very small in 1024x768. :( Dennis
There is on Mandrake 8.0 I think it was, but I can't remember the name right now..I'll try and work on this..also a fav here :-) Lee On Sunday 23 February 2003 08:41, Dennis wrote:

This program used to compile and run for me on SuSE 8.0, but I haven't tried it since I upgraded to 8.1. Why not give it a go? http://www.sdlinvaders.de/ Best wishes - Ken

Just an update to my own post - I downloaded the source to version 0.8 and it compiled and ran beautifully (both full-screen and in a window) on my SuSE 8.1 system. It's a pretty good implementation of the game, too! By the way, why search for Linux software on Google? Freshmeat (http://freshmeat.net/) is *the* place for Linux software. Best wishes - Ken

--===================== Ken, Thanks for the game, it works fine here! Very nice remake of a classic game to be sure. Thanks fsanta & Dennis for asking about it, as I don't think I would have thought to look for it. I did make a rpm of build should anyone want it or want me to upload to a site everyone could download from. Oh, Ken, what did you do to get it to run in a window? Mine comes up full screen right now, but only uses a smaller window there. Patrick --- KMail v1.5 --- SuSE Linux Pro v8.1 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...

----------------------- Hi Fabian, I just used the program "checkinstall" when running "make install" and that will create a suitable rpm file for you. Very handy little program, if you haven't tried it. Patrick --- KMail v1.5 --- SuSE Linux Pro v8.1 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...

Typing SDLInvaders -h on the command line gives you a list of command-line switches. This tells you that SDLInvaders -w will make it run in a window. Of course, for convenience you can set up a desktop icon to issue the command. Best wishes - Ken
Hi and thanks everyone. SDLInvaders works fine except you run (or type or clik) SDLinvaders not ./SDLInvaders like it says in the readme. Hey, someone replied.

Point taken. I just didn't know. Cheers, Steve.

The "classic" is xinvaders-2.1.1.tar.gz at
