I noticed when I run Windows 2000 the monitor is automatically turned off if no key is pressed and the mouse is left idle for about 20 consecutive minutes. The monitor is reactivated upon pressing any key on the keyboard or simply moving the mouse. When I run SuSE 7.3 the monitor is kept permanently on no matteer the elapsed time since the last keyboard entry . I wonder whether it is possible to get SuSE Window Manager behave the ame as Windows does. Thank you in adavance for your help. MEM

My question now is how does that work outside of KDE? Thanks, Eric __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Tax Center - online filing with TurboTax http://http://taxes.yahoo.com/

IIRC, outside of KDE, you can use xset s. -- JAY VOLLMER JVOLLMER1@MN.RR.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK IGNORE FULLWISE
I've tried this and it doesn't do anything to my monitor. In addition, I'd like to have the hard disks spin down. I notice they're always spinning. I can do a command line (although I can't remember what it is) but there must be an automatic way of this. Hi Tom, this should be possible with hdparm (see the man page). Run the command from the boot.local script.
