It's a useful tool as long as you take into account its limitations. It's never going to be perfect, and between updates the effectiveness tends to decline as spammers adapt to the filter rules. As spam filters go it's one of the best, though. It's helpful to remember that it doesn't do anything but tag mail with a spam score and classify it as spam or non-spam; it's up to your email client to decide what to do with the mail once spamassassin has classified it. One caveat: When using spamassassin at the client level, please *don't* bounce flagged mail back to the original sender. Most spam has forged 'From' addresses, so you're really just inflicting spam on another innocent party when you do this. (This is sometimes called "backscatter spam.") Once your email server has accepted a message, your options at the client level are limited to sorting it into a different folder or deleting it. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Spamasassin has brought about a lot of false positives in my use with Kmail ( I may be doing something wrong), but bogofilter produces almost no false positives and gets rid the spam - you also get a bluey whiteness with your whites. - because the filters at Gmail are rather good, perhaps there are points in favor . . . for just using Gmail ? best wishes -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
