Hi everyone, When using ALICE for the installation, it says as follows, # <username>[:<password>:<userid>:<groupid>:<comment>:<homedir>:<loginshell>] # # That means only username is actually re-quired. For the other fields, # defaults as config-ured above will be taken. You may leave fields off, but # the colons are required. <password> MUST be EN-CRYPTED by YOU, the script # doesnŽt do this for good reasons. Again: donŽt put unen-crypted passwords As someone being never made a manual useradd action I have two questions : 1) Can I define the homedir as main.server:/homedir 2) Regarding the password encryption how do I make it ? Is it some gurbage that I type in or is there am utility to create it for me to use Thanks in advance -- Togan Muftuoglu toganm@turk.net 100% MS FREE Absolutely no component of Microsoft was used in the generation or posting of this e-mail. No, the entry in here must be an absolute path. If you want use home directories on an NFS server, add the mount entry to /etc/fstab instead and use this path in here.
2) Regarding the password encryption how do I make it ? Is it some gurbage that I type in or is there am utility to create it for me to use
Not sure about this one - you might be able to use "htpasswd" from the apache package for this. Hi Lenz, Thanks for the answer for the first question. Maybe I should make my second question a little bit better phrased. Forget about Alice. If you do not install apache then you would not be able to create any user. If you are just creating a plain user by hand how do you write the password then. -- Togan Muftuoglu toganm@turk.net 100% MS FREE Absolutely no component of Microsoft was used in the generation or posting of this e-mail.
