Is SUSE Linus Desktop a part of Linux 9.3 or 10.0?
Hi Lonn. To answer this first question. I believe SuSE Linux desktop is both 9.3 and 10. They are just different versions. I might be wrong though as I haven't heard it called 'SuSE Linux Desktop. I have heard of Novell Linux Desktop which is 'possibly' a cut down version of SuSE Linux.
Does "boxed" distribution contain different documentation?
Ok, here I am on more certain ground. SuSe Linux Pro 9.3 contains both a printed Admin manual with quite comprehensive installation instructions and administrative tasks and a User manual which is the day to day tasks associated with a general PC user. SuSE 10 has a rather brief set up guide..... that's it. If you want the Admin guide then you need to download and print it out yourself (if you want a printed version that is).
Is there a description of differences or specifications for SUSE Linux 9.3 and 10.0?
I think that there probably is. It will be somewhere on the SuSE Novell website but I don't have an URL for it.
Where does one obtain the up-to-date product with documentation?
It depends where you live in the world. If you have a regional Amazon store then they will certainly stock it. Otherwise try a Google/Froogle search for your country. Almost the same thing but just different versions, the higher number version usually has newer releases of packages.
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9
Soon to be replaced with SLES 10 (this is the server distribution)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 Package Descriptions
Descriptions for all of the distributions can be found on the website.
SUSE Linux Desktop
No such item unless you mean NLD, Novell Linux Desktop which is meant for corporate environments. Perhaps this was the attempt of a few years ago for United Linux where many companies were going to have a single linux release. The docs show as being Version 1.0 but I don't recall ever seeing such an item available.
SUSE Linux Openexchange Server
Discontinued item as far as I remember.
SUSE Linux Retail Solution 8 SSP3
Software for a retail store/solution.
Is SUSE Linus Desktop a part of Linux 9.3 or 10.0?
There is no such thing as SUSE Linux Desktop unless you mean NLD which is a separate distribution.
Does "boxed" distribution contain different documentation?
Not different docs, additional packages yes. Perhaps if you just opened the docs and read a little you would find out what these different packages are. A little common sense goes a long way. It seems there are easily thousands (maybe tens of thousands) of pages in the docs listed at the link included in my original message.
A little common sense goes a long way. Or were you hoping someone else would do it for you?
Thanks anyway, but that's uncalled for.

No need to read all of the pages. The first few will tell what the product is/does.

So is asking everyone else on this list to do your homework. It's one thing if you can't find info, it is quite another to ask others to read it for you. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998

Where does one obtain the up-to-date product with documentation? First of all, SuSE Linux 10.0 is a complete system similar to SuSE Linux Professional 9.3. The DVD media in the boxed sets contains a complete set of bits and documentation. The boxed set also contains a book, but all that informaiton is fully online.
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is designed to be an enterprise server. It does
not contain a lot of the development tools that you get with SuSE Linux,
but there is the SDK that you can download free.
The enterprise distros are designed for servers, and are usually more stable
and less cutting edge. They don't have by default a lot of stuff you might
want on your desktop, and cost more money because you are buying support.
The Openexchange Server and other products just contain specific set ups for
those applications.
The bottom line is if you want a system fro the home or for development,
SuSE Linux 10.0 (boxed set or downloaded) is more than adequate. U
