The files I got from SuSE ftp were rpm files. When I search for gtk on YaST, I already have installed an older version of gtk (not 2.0 that I apparently need), so I think that installing gtk2.0 on YaST isn't an option. As for the gtk2-devel, yep I tried that as well - no luck, dependency issues. All in all, I think I tried to install about 10 rpm files that looked even remotely related to gtk2.0 or libgtk. Only a few made it. Mark -----Original Message----- From: James Ogley [mailto:james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk] Sent: Thursday, November 07, 2002 9:04 AM To: SuSE List Subject: Re: [SLE] GTK?
What am I doing wrong? Is there an easier way to install these system components (bits and pieces)? Is Linux always this way when you try to install a program?
How were you trying to install it? RPM or source? The easier way to install packages is to let YaST resolve dependencies, so you could select gtk2 in YaST and it'll install everything that it requires too. If you're installing this software from source, you'll need to install gtk2-devel as well, that contains the development headers, but may not be included with the Personal edition (not sure...) -- James Ogley, Unix Systems Administrator, Pinnacle Insurance Plc james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk www.pinnacle.co.uk +44 (0) 20 8731 3619 Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.1) Updated GNOME RPMs for SuSE Linux: www.usr-local-bin.org *********************************************************************** CONFIDENTIALITY. I know that the packages from the SuSE site are RPMs, I meant the package you need GTK-2 for - is that an RPM or a source install? Which version of SuSE are you using? 8.0 or 8.1? What app are you wanting to install? -- James Ogley, Unix Systems Administrator, Pinnacle Insurance Plc james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk www.pinnacle.co.uk +44 (0) 20 8731 3619 Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.1) Updated GNOME RPMs for SuSE Linux: www.usr-local-bin.org ********************************************************************** CONFIDENTIALITY.This e-mail and any attachments are confidential and may also be privileged.
