The error message which you pasted in describes exactly how to fix the problem. It's not that packman can't be found - the media ID has changed and you must do a "refresh" so that yast knows what is on the changed media.

i unfortunately don't know them. After fighting with zmd/smart/etc, i have hosed my update tools so badly that i can't do updates on this machine, so i haven't bothered with the KDE updates... waiting on Suse 10.2 for that.

Hello Ian Thansk for teh reply. I tried it now by using smart, but this failed: error: Failed to download packages: error: http://software.opensuse.org/download/KDE:/KDE3/SUSE_Linux_10.0/i586/kdeacce...: timed out It has worked ok on all but the last file. If a package is shown in blue it means that there is an update to it. The lock indicator is not really relevant since SuSE changed the way the repositories worked - different meta-data to cover smart and Yum. Previously all KDE packages were under the supplementary directory and had I believe different meta-data suitable for Yast only.

Also I have noted that the updates can be really slow to download. I expect that some of the mirrors are either hopelessly swamped or under resourced. The easiest solution I have found if it is taking forever to read the packages is to abort (kill) the process and start again with fingers crossed.

Does that mean, that the lock indicator can be just removed or ?. I know, that a blue color means, that the part in blue has an update available. What deos SuSE in fact do, as You say its not really relevant ?. Do You mean, that it's not relevant, that SuSE sets a lock indicator ?. Had same problem.

On advice from this list, I shutdown the zmd backend ( rczmd stop ) clobbered everything in /var/lib/zmd, and /var/lib/zypp, went into Yast and defined some installation repositories, (precisely these two: http://software.opensuse.org/download/repositories/KDE:/KDE3/SUSE_Linux_10.1... http://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/suse/update/10.1 and re-started zmd rczmd start From that point it worked well, including last night's upgrade of some of the zypp libraries and various parts of yast.

After last nights upgrade of the zypp/yast a subsequent upgrade of additional packages went VERY fast. (Almost Yast-like speed !!) I'm hoping it stays fixed.

Hi again John. As ever we can say long time .... Mine is 10., and it succeded to me to garbage it totally yesterday. Now it's installed again, and are doing YOU at the present. Thanks by the way for the URL's. I just chaneg the .1 with .0 :-) Else I have been happy with 10.0, but have had problems with it since I tarted up using smart. Now I will do the upgrade the Yast way. 10.0 worked ok, but there were some problems the other day, and probably they have occured due to it has been almost 3 month ago since I have had it switched on. Then there has been many updates during this time, and my experiences tells me, that this is not a problem with Yast, but I beleive it is with smart. Erik
