It's not looking good so far. Every store I've called so far can't tell when they'll get it in. I ordered on Amazon.com today. The listing said "should ship in 2 to 3 days" only to get an estimate of 8 to 11 days for delivery, even though I had it shipped next day. I would cancel my order, except I see no retailers that look to be carrying it anytime soon. When was it released officially? When is SuSE 8.2 expected to be available in retail stores in the US?
Thanks, Charles

It's usually best, if you are wanting it quickly, to order direct from the SuSE store! Amazon.com and Linux Central usually pick it up pretty quickly after the initial release date, but there is still a lag in time. The retail outlets, in my experience, start getting it from 2 weeks to a month after the release. Those places have such inventory and ordering procedures, things just don't get done quickly. Plus, you have to remember the free gifts SuSE supplies! Last time a fuzzy chameleon and this time a fuzzy t-shirt! Gives you a warm fuzzy feeling, huh? :o) Patrick -- --- KMail v1.5.9.1i --- SuSE Linux Pro v8.1 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...

Yeah, I hear you. I didn't want it *early*. In fact, I'm still relatively on the fence. It's just that I got a couple gift certificates from Amazon.com and Amazon had it for $10 off so I figured "what the heck" I'll order it. Except that Amazon can't deliver until at least Monday. So I might as well wait around and see if anyone gets it over the weekend. If not I might just re-order it or just order from SuSE. Who knows. What a drag, though. I wanted to try it and I can't buy it really except from SuSE.

Except I'm not a 1X guy (what they have on their site as the gift). Preston

Mine is due next week, April 21st. Although will keep track of that as it can change. I am on the West Coast and did select ground shipping. Matt
Comet on the way to impact earth and must get 8.2 installed before doomsday? :-) -Jim-

No. I just hate ordering something and waiting a week to get it. When I get in the mood to upgrade I want to just it over with. Especially given that it's going to take time to get my web server, mySQL server, etc. up to the spot my previous install was. Preston

I had coupons with Amazon. Would have cost me $65 to have it delivered next day. Problem is, Amazon doesn't actually have it in stock. The confusion is just that I saw a chance to save a few bones. I'll probably just wait until it shows up at Fry's or CompUSA. Preston
Hi, Try BUY.COM. I looked there the other day and they had PRO 8.2 for $66 and free shipping. I ordered my UPDATE 8.2 from SuSE USA direct for about $60 shipped and it shipped today. PeterB On Tuesday 15 April 2003 05:56 pm, Preston Crawford wrote:

Why don't you order it from SuSE? I ordered it Saturday, it'll be here on friday. I think the total, of the upgrade version, was $60. $9 shipping ups ground. Plus all your money goes to SuSE rather than compusa. I can't find the link, but it was on the online store page. I know it was in the archive. Franklin

Maybe. Problem is I always like to buy the full Pro version. I generally give away my old Pro to someone else to get started on Linux. So I was just hoping to save a little money over the $80 cost. Preston

If that's the case, order the pro "upgrade" version -- despite the ominous sounding word "upgrade" in the name, it really is "the full package" so far as the CD/DVD's and what's on them (meaning you CAN do a full install "from scratch") What is missing from the "package" proper is one manual [the overly cheesy "new user" guide] and 30 of the 90 days worth of "installation support" -- and for that they knock off about $40. The final caveat is that the "upgrade" is usually only availble "online"... - -- Yet another Blog: http://osnut.homelinux.net -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) Comment: http://osnut.homelinux.net/TomEmerson.asc iD8DBQE+nPjlV/YHUqq2SwsRAl88AKCT5cRJD9bmczQLQVyYp4v7sR5kFgCbBYU3 Z535+rIC79fG0gSaHGY+CtU= =qyfm -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
<snip> I ordered 8.2 Pro Upgrade from SuSE on April 8th, it shipped April 14th and it arrived April 15th via UPS ground. Only bummer so far is that the full blown PRO version arrived instead of the Pro Upgrade I ordered and was charged for. Nice shirt too. THANKS for the bonus manuals SuSE! Stan
If you preordered SuSE 8.2 from suse.com (the North American website of SUSE) you got a free T-shirt. Too late to do it now but they have done it in the past for pre-orders and maybe they will do it next time for the USA and Canadan customers. You can still buy the shirt at http://store.suse.com if you missed the offer. I don't know if they ship outside of North America. pben On Wednesday 16 April 2003 08:47 am, Dan Am wrote:

Yeah, I know about the upgrade. I still lean towrads the Pro, though, because it makes handing it off to newbies easier. The last two times I bought SuSE I gave away my previous version to someone totally new to Linux. You can imagine that having that package with the books (the books SuSE does are really good also) and everything is a great introduction to Linux. So that's why I generally go that route. Preston
does this version solve the IDE-SCSI detection problem? Or do I still need to manually correct the problems? If you must shop in the USA try an associates site www.pricegrabber.com They shop the shopping sites for you and you can compare the prices. With the zip code they can sort it out as to costs of taxes, shipping etc. I dont know if there is an equivalent for our European users.
