[opensuse] A custom DVD possible?
I use openSuSE, and like GNOME, Many packages in the official released DVD I dunnt need(Like KDE3.5 AND KDE 4, they r too big for the small DVD), and I have to add some special Drivers or software(some r in the official repo and some not). Burn a custom DVD is possible (Not easy for a beginner like me). But can it be a choice as official service ? Or can it be reached with jigdo or someth. else ? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You need KIWI http://en.opensuse.org/KIWI -- "A computer is like an Old Testament god, with a lot of rules and no mercy. " Cristian Rodríguez R. Platform/OpenSUSE - Core Services SUSE LINUX Products GmbH Research & Development http://www.opensuse.org/
But can it be a choice just over the project-page(Just like the choices to LiveCD & i386 or x64 DVD),and provide the custom modified DVD iso image (Maybe it would be heavy job for the Server if everyone do this, so can jigdo-like software do it ), download the basic files and packages(custom choosed),and make ISO file after downloading finished. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I really don't understand what you want. As you mention, you can already buy a DVD. In addition, some magazines include a DVD. But you seem to want a DVD with less on it??? If you don't want something, don't install it. How is someone else supposed to know what to take out off the DVD and why would they bother? -- Use OpenOffice.org http://www.openoffice.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Its clear enough :-) He would like somethings out, and put somethings else in. Mee to! And he asks whether this would be possible directly from the download page, via "jigdo". If you don't know what it is, read on: A typical application of Jigdo is with its jigdo-file utility. A user that wishes to assemble a disk image downloads a relatively very small file called imagename.jigdo. The jigdo-file utility invoked with this file as an argument then proceeds to fetch additional files from the Internet: imagename.template and a series of .deb files that are listed in the .jigdo file. It then uses the mkisofs utility to build the ISO image. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jigdo I find that insteresting. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Currently there is yast2 kiwi, yast2 addon-creator modules, or a command line wrapper for kiwi[1]. Check out http://en.opensuse.org/KIWI for more details. Except that it isn't accepting any users at this time. It looks like a great idea. Just wish it would accept at least a users address. Yeah, it has a way to sign up for more info, but then it fails. Anyone know who runs this? I'd love to be able to build KDE3 install CDs for PPC since I still have several macs that only have CD drives in them. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
