Hope you guys out there can help me with this one: My SuSE 10 installation by default chose a partition size of 2.5 GB, but now it appears that I really needed a partition size of approx 6.0 GB, as at the moment it shows only 11 % free (269.2 MB). Since I have bags of disk space available I would like to resize my linux partition to 6.0 GB. I have a bootable CD (made an el-torito iso image as per the Reference Manual) that boots the system, but even then I am not sure whether I can safely resize and reboot subsequently. I could make a backup image of the entire linux partition with BootItNG but that probably is not the answer. Incidentally am I right in concluding that a Gnome desktop uses much less space than a KDE desktop ? I also installed SuSE 10 on a much older PC than this one (an old 266 Mhz processor and less than 128 MB memory) and to my surprize it detected hardware quite well - even correctly detected my ADSL right away, and the Gnome desktop on that one seems to have used much less disk space ? No need to resize the partition, just make a new partition and map it into the directory structure. For example, create a 6 Gb partition and use it as /home Yast partition manager makes it all a breeze. If you feeling adventurous and don't mind reading up about it, one of the most flexible ways of using disk space is use the LVM system. Keep your 6Gb partition and then create a 60Gb volume group and divide it up into whatever you need and resize it things on the fly. But you will have to google and read a bit for that one....
