Hi everyone, I've going to do some various upgrades to my laptop (more ram, new nic, KVM, etc.), so I don't think I'm going to be springing for buying SuSE this time (unless they ever implement my "PowerPack" idea). Anyway, I still wouldn't mind going and downloading the ISO's, and maybe sending SuSE a check for $10 or $20 (like I believe CheapBytes recommends). Any ideas yet on when we might see the ISO's? We are _evaluating_ (and don't read more into it) the idea of some fast ftp-servers and giving people access to the FULL distribution (not just the current ftp-version, i.e. this one will include the 3rd party stuff as well) there. For some little money. In Europe this is not a great business idea, in the US it _might_ be. Well, RH seems to think so, see the "RH network". IMHO it's certainly more convenient than getting a big box each time, esp. with the update edition only available from us directly, which adds S&H to the bill. But an individual opinion doesn't mean the idea is a good business idea.
Hi Michael, That would be nice, I bet a lot of us would purchase something like that. Really all I want is the ISO's, and if I could get them faster, and pay for it (which keeps SuSE going), it's a win-win situation. I assume, since it would have the cost of shipping from Germany to the U.S. or the cost of the printing the materials, it would probably be a lower price than the upgrade? BTW, until then, any idea when the free ISO's will be available? Best, Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Butler Universal Networks Information Tech. Personally, I would like to see either an ISO image or a cd that only has a basic SuSE install. I generally start out with a minimal installation and download off the net the updated software that I need. The problem with basic installation off the SuSE CDs, you have to manually remove a considerable amount of software that you normally don't use but have the option to use. I'm willing to pay $10 USD for something like this. Christopher Reimer
I agree - that would be nice too. Personally, when the ISO's finally come out, I'm just going to download the "evaluation CD", so if there was a way to _buy_ that CD and/or buy ftp access to the ISO for it, so that I could get my hands on it as soon as it was out, that would be great. Say $10-$20 for the privilege of d/ling it, and I'd take it. -Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Butler Universal Networks Information Tech.
