[SLE] Stability of Netscape 4.75
Am I imagining things, or is Netscape 4.75 a small step backwards in terms of stability? I've always had problems with Netscape occasionally quitting or even freezing on me, but they seem to happen more often with 4.75. I've also seen a new problem: sometimes Navigator gets into a state where all its webpage screens are blank, though the message below seems to indicate that the page was retrieved properly. The only way to get the screens back is to quit the program entirely and restart it. No, it's been happening more frequently nowdays though in my environment, it's been reduced slightly by moving to netscape 4.74.. Since we have to upgrade for security reasons I suspect that is a situation that SuSE won't tolerate for long before solving the problem. Speaking of irritating things.. Why doesn't SuSE list MYSQL on the web page for Linux Professional along side Postgres? Without starting a controversial topic, I'd just like to know if possible, even in private mail if need be. Thanks Len On Thu, Aug 24, 2000 at 10:51:31AM -0400, Paul W. Abrahams wrote:

Our database guru, who worked for far more than a decade in the core team to develop the Informix and Sybase databases on the 'bottom half' (that's the core of the core, the other stuff would 'only' be SQL-parsing and query optimization), says about MySQL: It's a 'grep' with a SQL frontend. About PostgreSQL: That is indeed a real database! Hey, I only say what he told us... plus, 'grep' doesn't mean it's bad, I use grep a lot...
Without starting a controversial topic, I'd just like to know if possible, even in private mail if need be.

Hi,
Our database guru, says about MySQL: It's a 'grep' with a SQL frontend. About PostgreSQL: That is indeed a real database!
The best description of MySQL yet <g>. Talking about real databases, we should expect to see InterBase in 7.1, should we? Don't know. I only have the CDs so far and haven't even looked what's on them. There's more space and packages on the DVD. I don't know how well InterBase works now. Announcing it is one thing... I've seen quite a few commercial packages, some we even bundled, that jsut weren't even nearly stable. Anyway, don't know the status of InterBase, as I said. -- Michael Hasenstein http://www.suse.de/~mha/ SuSE Linux AG, Nuernberg (Germany) SuSE Inc., Oakland, California (US) -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Better then 4.74 but likely worse then some of the other versions.

I think I've seen this. Greetings! Does SuSE 6.3 and 7.0 support AOpen MX59 Pro II motherboard? Are there any special issues that I need to be concern about? The motherboard is an all-in-one board with built-in video and audio that I plan to use with my file server. Although I will probably be ssh-ing into it 90% of the time, I would like to have the option of running an X-server and web browsing when I my Windows machine is doing something else. Thanks! The important question: what's the video and audio chips? According to our hardware (component) database (cdb.suse.de), the MX 59 Pro is supported. Don't know what the 'II' adds to this. See http://cdb.suse.de/cgi-bin/scdb?ID=96714121182&HTML=ENGLISH%2Fcdb_listtemplates%2Fshow_a.htm&INDEX=1002 -- Michael Hasenstein http://www.suse.de/~mha/ SuSE Linux AG, Nuernberg (Germany) SuSE Inc., Oakland, California (US) -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

That I'm not sure of.

I believe 'II' adds a ATA66 controller chip, support for faster K6-2 CPUs and is a Micro-ATX form factor. I'm not interested in what the database says (not that the database or your response wasn't helpful). I'm more interested in learning what other users have went through when installing linux on this particular motherboard. There are several potential problem areas (audio, video, and ATA66) that I need to find out before I get the board. Otherwise, it might make more sense to get a different board (i.e., Tyan S1598).
