I'm missing something with scpm. I thought one could load a profile from the grub intro screen using the syntax "PROFILE=foo" in grub's configuration file. Doesn't work. I still would like to load profiles early during the boot process. Can someone tell me how to do this? -- Hollywood is where if you don't have happiness you send out for it. -- Rex Reed

It does if you do it right;-) The "PROFILE=foo" needs to be part of the kernel append line. Like title linux kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda1 vga=791 PROFILE=foo initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initrd Greetings from Bremen hartmut

Thanks. That worked fine. I have another question about this. I used the run level editor to remove nfs out of my "standalone" profile, with no result. What is the scope of scpm? Does it apply only to items I change in yast? If I make a change outside of yast, do I run SuSEconfig? -- HE: Let's end it all, bequeathin' our brains to science. SHE: What?!? No. SCPM is taking care of only those services and files that are defined in one of the resource groups. You will have to call the "Export" dialogue from the YaST2 profile manager module to configure (add/remove) those resource groups. I believe nfs is not activated (as a resource group in scpm) by default. There is quite a big section about scpm in chapter 8 of the green admin manual (SUSE LINUX 9.0). It's a good read. I meant to write "expert" - but that would have been wrong as well. You have to go to "options" and then to "configure resources". Note: I'm talking about the YaST2 from 9.0. The profile manager module has changed quite a bit from 8.2 -> 9.0. Greetings from Bremen hartmut
Thanks for the information. I think I'll hold off on this until I get a chance to update. I'm still running 8.2. On Sun, 2003-11-02 at 00:44, Hartmut Meyer wrote:

Ahhh, once again dear Rexie has missed Das Boat ... you don't "send out for it" You send someone to get it for you , on return to your beautiful home in Holmby Hills , and arrange it on a silver salver for you, w/ an exiisite properlly chilled bottle of Bubly , and various sweets and treats.. BTW if a Silver salver isn't available call Gelsons, they'll deliver one imediately. In Fact , almost anything that comes under the heading of "happiness" can be delivered in less than an hour.. well, as long as you don't stiff the delivery person.. <VBG>
