[opensuse] Problems downloading 11.3
Hello SuSE people I have been trying to download theopenSuse 11.3 iso for three days and every time it stops prematurely. I successively tried the SuSE repository, then a french one (much slower) and I am stuck at my secont attempt from http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/opensuse/distribution/11.3/iso/openSUSE-11... -DVD-i586.iso (de, prio 130) Which appears to be the fastest : 14 hours 27' only ! ! in my case. The iso should be 4 Go and I have only 3.7 Go ( 3,961,190,992 Bytes exactly). It is y best success until now, but I suppose it is not complete and cannot be used as is. I am using Firefox 3.6.10 with OpenSuse 11.2. Is there a way of completing the unfinished download ? It would be the best solution considering the time it takes. Or should I download it with another browser such as Konqueror ? Or is there a better repository available from France ? Thanks for advising me -- Paul Ollion Proud Linux user SuSE 11.2 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Perhaps using Metalink http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Metalink will help you. There is the Firefox extension "DownThemAll!". Just select "Metalink" as the "Méthode de téléchargement". You're not trying to download onto a FAT filesystem by any chance are you? That has a 4GB file size limit, so the DVD iso is too big. Anyway, openSUSE 11.2 has aria2c available, use that or Firefox "DownThemAll" to download the metalink as Jan said. That will guarantee a correct download. The faster and most reliable method (it includes error correction) is using a metalink capable downloader. There is info about that in the help links of the download page.

Are you using a FAT disk as the destination of the download? you can't. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. Thank you Jan, Tejas and Carlos. I installed DownThemAll and downloaded a metalink iso from SuSE but did not know what to do with it Then I found a list of Metalink compatible mirrors and I am downloading from it it appears to be faster (13 hours 27 ' only) I hope it won't stop before end and will keep you informed of the résult. Presently DownThemAll is using the metalink as a "referrer URL" ? http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.3/iso/openSUSE-11.3-DVD- i586.iso?mirrorlist and I am downloading from http://mirror.ovh.net/opensuse/distribution/11.3/iso/openSUSE-11.3-DVD-i586.... If everything goes right I should have the isot to-morrow morning. and it will be thanks to you. -- Paul Ollion Proud Linux user SuSE 11.2 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thank you again. DownThem All was a success, with metalink. It was not without any trouble at all since the the download stopped five times ; but every time downThemAll was able to resume where it had stopped and I did not have to do it all again from the beginning. as previously. That is why it was a little longer then announced. However I have the iso complete now and I am about to burn it on a DVD. Once more this list saved me -- Paul Ollion Proud Linux user SuSE 11.2 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Try the torrent next time. It seems a lot more robust on ratty connections. -- _____________________________________ At one time I had a Real Sig. Its been downsized. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
