What you say is quite interesting, I had no idea about /etc/java. :) Generally I get the *.bin file from Sun, run it, then move the resulting j2sdk* directory in /usr/lib/j2sdk*. After that I update the link(s) in /usr/java to point to the new dir (now I noticed a /usr/java2 dir and I did that too just in case). After that, "java -version" returns the correct version, and also "set | grep J" says that everything is installed in /usr/java. Good luck. -- mioriticus "Think of it as evolution in action."
Thanks now it works fine ..
I change the links "SunJava2,SunJava2-1.3,java & java2
" to /usr/java/j2sdk...
I guess we only to change SunJava2,SunJava2-1.3 link
Thanks again.

Sorry about that, it's very late around here. Please replace every occurrence of "/usr/java" with "/usr/lib/java". -- mioriticus "Think of it as evolution in action."
