Hello, I was just looking around for a simple graphical backup program that I could use with a 4/8 Gig DAT drive and found kdat. It is pretty much all that I need since I'm just using it at home. My problem is that it seems to backup properly but when I restore just a few files it doesn't restore exactly the files I ask for. It will restore only a couple of the ones I ask for plus a few others. It would probably restore everything properly if I chose everything but that's obviously not always necessary. Anybody use kdat here? On the KDE site they have an open bug report from long ago. Anybody have any other free, simple suggestions? I've been trying amanda, (gui isn't totally necessary) but I haven't been successful with it. so far tar, dump, and restore have been working ok, maybe I'll just stick with them. This problem has come up a few times since i started talking on this list.. I have personally experienced this problem with Kdat and the only thing i can attribute it to is the way Kdat allows multiple archives on one tape.. For some reason the system that keep track of where archives begin and end get stuffed up. People, feel free to correct me here :) I am not a programmer :) Cya Matthew Matthew King: Network Engineer, Cable & Wireless Optus. My ICQ#: 2342475 Message me! Your experience is the same as mine . . . KDAT did NOT work reliably, for
me.

"TAPER" by Yusuf Nagree {
} is downloadable from www.Linuxberg.de works a charm, and is reliable.
Thanks, I took a look at taper (already have it, one of the benefits of using the best distro on the market) and that just may be what I'm looking for.
