RE: [SLE] FATAL: cannot change permissions of TTY: Read-only file system
Install of k_athlon.rpm failed because portions of the filesystem are
read-only
So, I have backed-up /home and / and will try a new install of SuSE 8.2
Is there an easier way?

New install sounds very drastic. Any reason why you don't want to make those portions of the filesystem writeable temporarily while you do the upgrade? mount -o remount,rw blah, blah Or boot from the rescue system. At least that is what I would try but did not upgrade kernels on this 8.2 release of SuSE. I have a kernel upgrade to do soon so keep your finger crossed for me (switching from k_deflt to k_athlon)
