[opensuse] Screen Capture
On 10.3, how do i get a screen capture? I have tried ctrl-print screen, alt-print screen and shift-print screen but nothing works. Also googled but did not find anything for opensuse. Klipper is running but don't see that it has "captured" anything. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You're on KDE? I use KSnapshot. Go to: "Utilities, Desktop, KSnapshot." Fred -- A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

There are all sorts of ways to get a screenshot on suse 10.3, from the old tried and true xv, to ksnapshot, with I use several times a week. You didn't say what desktop environment you use, but if it's not kde, then there are similar utilities for gnome; regardless, there are several ways to get a screenshot. Nope, xv is the ticket - but there are a lot of old programs which could be used as well. xv did a lot of things, but it also included a handy little screenshot function - just click the "grab" button near the bottom right hand corner of the main menu. I use alt-print scrn all the time in OpenSuse 10.3 (KDE). After alt-primt scrn, I right click anywhere on the desktop wallpaper and select "paste clipboard contents". It then gives a choice of what graphic file format to create (png is default). I think that's specific to gnome - on kde you have the screenshot applet. I only mentioned xv because I'd been using that since the 90s, and because it has its own screen grab function independent of any window manager functionality, it works no matter what desktop environment or window manager you use. Well, I am definitely not using gnome. I just tried alt-print screen to see if it would work one day not long after installing openSuse 10.3 on my laptop, and it worked. It's very handy, so I use it quite often. Lee -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I do have "paste clipboard contents but it is "greyed-out" after an alt-print screen. On kde3 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Which implies alt-print scrn is not sending anything to your clipboard, but it does mine. Strange. If this is something that normally works in gnome, maybe I have a gnome app installed that added this capability, who knows. I'm on KDE3 - or whatever the version is that is not the bleeding edge KDE4 that I haven't bothered to try yet. Gimp (3rd party graphics software) has a capture utility also. Can do single windows, or screens. B-) On Sunday 17 February 2008 7:06:03 pm Chris Arnold wrote:

LOL, use the kde screenshot applet. It's called ksnapshot. Joe -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I guess if you want to do it in a round-about way.

I press PrtScrn and it starts KSnapshot with whole screen captured. I tried Ctrl+PrtScrn to get image copied to Klipper, but it seems not configured here. -- Regards, Rajko. I've always used "import", a part of ImageMagick. Just fire up a shell and type "import foo.jpg" (or gif, or png, or whatever). Then just rubber-band the area you want to capture with the cursor and hit the left mouse button. Beep and done. This should work with any desktop GUI.
