Is there any support for this VGA Card
-S3 Savage 4 PCI Slot 16 Mega
The entire S3 Savage family has proven itself to be crap. I'd recommend trying to find a ViRGE card instead.
The Virge is made by S3! J/k - I know what you are sayin'!! :) But I must agree, the Savage support in Linux ain't good. In a certain other OS it is extremely good for the price. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

To clarify ;) : The ViRGE family has been around for at least three years (that's as far back as my memory goes), and is very well supported. To my knowlege, the ViRGE family maxed out at 8MB on the card, but I could be mistaken about that. The ViRGE family also has some support for hardware-assisted 3D rendering by the Utah-GLX project.

I'm not an S3-hater, but the Savage family SUCKS if you're not running Windows9x. -- -=|JP|=- "Why, oh, why didn't I take the blue pill?" Syeh, You might want to check xi's X Windows server. It is not cheap, but if it works for you, it might be worth it. On the other hand, it might be cheaper to get a new video card... I believe you can download a demo from their web site: http://www.xigraphics.com/ Avi Syeh Abidin wrote:

Well, if you are not willing to spend money on Linux "things", you have the following options: 1. Spend your money on Windows "things". After all, Windows is not free. 2. Write your own X server. 3. Wait a year. 4. Purchase a new card. Avi Syeh Abidin wrote:

I *told* you; DON'T USE 4. Go back to 3.3.6, or use the fbdev X server from 4.0 or 4.0.1. In my experience, the fbdev server can't be *that* much slower than that POS SiS card in native graphics mode. *Or* just buy a real video card.

XFree86 5.0 will almost certainly not be ready next year. The 3.3 series servers have been around for several. -- -=|JP|=- "Why, oh, why didn't I take the blue pill?"
