Wvdial trouble in 8.1
Hi, Every time I reboot into 8.1 and try to start wvdial, it gives this error message: --> Found a good menu option: "async". --> Carrier detected. Starting PPP immediately. --> Starting pppd at Fri Nov 8 22:48:43 2002 --> pid of pppd: 3402 --> Disconnecting at Fri Nov 8 22:48:43 2002 --> The PPP daemon has died: No root priv error (exit code = 3) --> man pppd explains pppd error codes in more detail. --> I guess that's it for now, exiting --> The PPP daemon has died. (exit code = 3) A gentle one, but not too explaining. Well I boot Konqueror up as root and set UID for ppp. How can I avoid doing this every time? And where did wvdial.lxdialog go in the new wvdial version? I liked that config tool, now I can't find any configuration tool. Has the software been degraded? Regards, Jostein

A gentle one, but not too explaining. Well I boot Konqueror up as root and set UID for ppp. How can I avoid doing this every time?
I solved that one yesterday: edit "/etc/permissions.local" and add this line: /usr/sbin/pppd root.dialout 6754 That overrides the default, which is "root.dialout 0755". The above settings are what the "easy" config had in suse 7.3.

Dunno. Pin doesn't find it, but I never used it much. I don't miss it, as it is already configured :-) -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
