sylog-ng and chrooted named
Hi all! I have this problem (!?!) of logging my chrooted named with sylogd-ng. I cant get any messages "out"... The Named-chroot howto states to use a '-a' switch to the ordinary sylogd to redirect. But i cant for my life undersatnd how to get the same response with syslog-ng..? Does anyone have a nice pointer to read? Or maybe a solution? I have read the manpages, the syslog-ng doc's and so far came up with nothing... -- /Rikard ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rikard Johnels email : rikjoh@norweb.se Web : http://www.rikjoh.com Mob : +46 70 464 99 39 ------------------------ Public PGP fingerprint ---------------------------- < 15 28 DF 78 67 98 B2 16 1F D3 FD C5 59 D4 B6 78 46 1C EE 56 >

/etc/sysconfig/syslog has the info
Or maybe a solution? add this to your /etc/sysconfig/syslog (change as appropriate
SYSLOGD_ADDITIONAL_SOCKET_NAMED="/chroot/named/dev/log" run SuSEcnfig --module syslog-ng and restart syslog-ng -- Togan Muftuoglu Unofficial SuSE FAQ Maintainer Please reply to the list; http://susefaq.sf.net Please don't CC me.

Thank you! Now the problem i have is that its not a SuSE setup :( (Forgot to mention that. Its a Gentoo on a Alpha station) And as much as i love YAST its not present on the described system. :( So my followup question would be: "What specific line in the configfile should be added?" Learning this will give a spinoff effect as well; I will learn whats "under the hood" in the eventual case my ordinary SuSE systems breakdown.. :) Yast is great, but its a bit too "simple" to rely souly on it. Incase something foul's i have no idea where to look unless i know it to begin with. -- /Rikard ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rikard Johnels email : rikjoh@norweb.se Web : http://www.rikjoh.com Mob : +46 70 464 99 39 ------------------------ Public PGP fingerprint ---------------------------- < 15 28 DF 78 67 98 B2 16 1F D3 FD C5 59 D4 B6 78 46 1C EE 56 >

This is not YAST this is general SuSE configuration system

/etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf (taht is under SuSE YMMV # # the following line will be replaced by the # socket list generated by SuSEconfig using # variables from /etc/sysconfig/syslog: # unix-dgram("/dev/log"); unix-dgram("/chroot/named/dev/log");

YAST (Yet Another Setup Tool) never promises to do everything SuSEconfig is responsible for most of the things and it is good IMHO -- Togan Muftuoglu Unofficial SuSE FAQ Maintainer Please reply to the list; http://susefaq.sf.net Please don't CC me.
