Hi, As subject suggests, my hotplugging has stopped working. I would assume that I must have done something (probably the latest kernel update?). At boot time I used to get lots of dots, and a few beeps when something was found, now I just get the dots. Anyone know what might have changed? Tom Wesley

Did you add a hub? I have to physically re-plug my devices into my hub to get them recognized. This happens both in winders and linux. I'm told this is not a problem w/ all hubs, I'm just lucky. Good luck -- dh Don't shop at GoogleGear.com!

Any error msg? Are you using apic (not acpi)? If so, try to disable it. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

I have tried disabling apic, the only messages I get during hotplug are Mar 18 07:42:36 tawesley kernel: uhci.c: USB Universal Host Controller Interface driver v1.1 Mar 18 07:42:36 tawesley /etc/hotplug/usb.rc[1844]: loaded HCD: usb-uhci Mar 18 07:42:36 tawesley /etc/hotplug/usb.rc[1844]: loaded HCD: usb-ohci So it's almost as though there just isn't anything there... Tom, there's a good chance it isnt. After an upgrade my usb quit and later I found the hotplug had gone away. Go to Yast and do a reinstall. Cant hurt! Richard

I don't know... My USB did not work at all at first, I got some kind of timeout error (aparently documented), and the sdb advice didn't work for me. Then I got it working by disabling APIC - note that's not the same as ACPI, the power thing. APIC is related to interrupt handling and such. Search the SDB, maybe some of the advice there relates to your problem. The logs I get are (so you can compare): /var/log/kernel: Mar 16 12:30:11 nimrodel kernel: usb-uhci.c: $Revision: 1.275 $ time 18:00:30 Feb 23 2003 Mar 16 12:30:11 nimrodel kernel: usb-uhci.c: High bandwidth mode enabled Mar 16 12:30:11 nimrodel kernel: usb-uhci.c: v1.275:USB Universal Host Controller Interface driver ... IIANM, you should check your /etc/modules.conf, and check the above modules. usb-uhci is for a controller, usb-ohci is for a different kind of controller. If you have 2 controllers, it may be correct, but my guess is they conflict. Maybe the new kernel's modules are now working correctly, since you shouldn't load both. I've got the same problem with suse 8.1 and with the newer kernels. It doen't come from a conflict betwenn USB drivers, I run both since I've two different interfaces. I had to add : ACPI=oldboot as a kernel parameter at boot and everything runs fine. Catimimi.
