Mine 2-speed CD-writer, does burn CD's, but: blanking CDRW's (rewrite-ables) is giving trouble This is reported: /usr/bin/cdrecord: Input/output error. blank unit: scsi sendcmd: retryable error status: 0x2 (CHECK CONDITION) /usr/bin/cdrecord: Cannot blank disk, aborting. It is retryable AND i should check condition! Buffer problem? I tried 2 different brands of CDRW's, same (error)report! Anybody suggestion what to do? -- ----------------- | Greetings | | Paul van Duijn | -----------------

I saw this stuff when my cdrecorder was broken. This is not a buffer problem, AFAIK, because there is no need of a buffer to erase cdrw. Check if your hardware is ok... Praise

But why can i still burn CDR's??, it is just the 'blanking' of CDRW's. Is doesn't make much sense to me.! Could it be that the latest generation of CDRW's are a bit different from the first generation of CDRW's (long shot!) ----------------- | Met Greetings | | Paul van Duijn | -----------------

My burner acted almost the same. Then it started to make errors more and more often, and finally died. I hope this is not your case though. What kind of CD-RW are you using? Praise

I believe all post-1999 CDR(W) drivers are MMC-compliant, unless you bought an old drive, I wouldn't count on that. Have you checked the cdrecord (1) man page? Here's a nice little quote: -force Force to continue on some errors. This option currently implements some tricks that will allow you to blank bad CD-RW disks. Have you tried this? If that doesn't work, upgrade to the _latest_ cdrecord (1.11a12, as of the time of this writing). Then try... -- Karol Pietrzak PGP KeyID: 3A1446A0

At the risk of sounding vague, sure it does. CD-R and CD-RW media are almost entirely unlike each other. Can you blank the CD-RW with another OS? If yes, can you successfully write to these pre-blanked discs?

That is a long shot. Have you talked to the cdrecord maintainer about this yet? -- -=|JP|=- Need a good geek? I'm unemployed!
