[opensuse] KDE 4 and Konqueror reduced functionality
Relevant to photographers and others who view images: When clicking on an image file in Konqueror 4 (or Dolphin) I can no longer get a full EXIF reading. That is also the case with Gwenview's latest incarnation. With the KDE 3 counterparts, I could and can easily get the EXIF reading up by right clicking and choosing the appropriate dialog box area. Such a loss of functionality needs to be remedied as soon as possible. Have you put the feature request into the KDE Bugzilla? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Oh for pete sake!!! Now now only do we have to request abandoned KDE 3 packages in KDE 4, we have to re-request all the features that were gutted out of the packages that were retained? Why in gods name would they drop that feature? It was already there in the code!!! EXIF info extraction is not exactly a peripheral function that was seldom used, in fact it is relatively new and increasingly important for indexing, documentation, etc. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Unfortunately sounding off here, won't change anything. Either they'll explain how you get what you want, or he'll be able to make a case, why it's important. A common criticism of KDE 3 was overwhelming choice, so possibly someone's gone through and 'simplified' things. I know I hated Dolphin when I tangled with it testing 4.0 beta & RC, because it was dumbed down. But no point in speculation, using KDE Bugzilla is the way to do something about it, and "Such a loss of functionality needs to be remedied as soon as possible." -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Who has levelled that criticism? The configurability and functionality was the very reason why I unhesitatingly picked KDE over GNOME as a desktop. (Nothing wrong said about GNOME programs, though!) Frankly I cannot see the point in dumbing down functions that are extremely convenient for an increasing number of people. It is important to be able to extract EXIF data by a single right-click with the mouse instead of having to go through many steps and clog up the screen with new windows. Removing choice and functionality is hardly simplifying anything. And then if there is Dolphin, there is even less point in dumbing KDE down for the sake of a dubious simplicity.

Quite so. Let us then do it, we who consciously want and value functionality, so that the KDE developers may take notice. Because it needs to be remedied - moreover one has to distinguish between watering things down and making things easier. The latter requires a high degree of configurability and choice. It is in fact easier to get the work done when the functions are available. No, I thought this list was read by people who are directly involved in the process. If such is not the case, I shall be glad to go to KDE Bugzilla with a feature request. Wouldn't that be the kDE lists? While alot of KDE/KDE-related conversations appear on this list, it is primarily for help w/ the opensuse distro, correct? -- Michael S. Dunsavage -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
