[SLE] Books on Linux networking ?
I am looking for a good book on Linux networking. I have a Suse 6.3 Linux server which is running an on-demand dial up net connection which can be used by my Windows client machines. Sendmail and Samba are also running OK. However, as I'm going to be getting a cable modem (with dynamic IP address) setup soon which will be running on my Linux server, I would like to really set things up perfectly. My objectives are: 1) To set up Samba properly to run as a PDC to my Windows NT and Windows 98 machines. 2) To have IP masquerading and routing working properly so that I can run games such as Halflife through my Linux server from the W98 machine, plus being able to use FTP clients and Newsreader clients from the Windows machines. Plus, proper protection from outside intrusion to my network. All the HOW-TOs etc are all very Redhat biased so I'm wondering if there are any good books which cover all of these topics in detail but with a Suse bias. Does anyone have any good suggestions ? All the books I've seen never seem to cover these topics very well if at all. There are two books from O'Reilly which will do the job. You only have to pay for one of them. Using Samba can be downloaded from the O'Reilly site as a PDF file. The other one is "Ethernet - The Definitive Guide". Even shows you how to wire up the cables. ISBN - 1-56592-660-9. Price is $44.95. My review of this book will be out in May in the UKUUG newsletter Thanks -- Richard Sheffield UK -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
