I have recieved several replies for a replacement of Windows Quicken. When I use YaSt to look at the dependences I see that gnome is one of them. Since I use KDe and I was under the impression you cannot run it and gnome, if I install gnome will I be given an option to select it or KDe at login? Second can gnome printing run if I'm using CUPS? Thanks in advance!! -- Russ

There is also KMyMoney (should be installed with KDE), and MoneyDance (http://moneydance.com/). I've used it for years on Linux.

You can have as many window managers and desktop managers as can fit on your hard drives. KDE and Gnome apps run within each other as long as the libraries and other files needed by an application are installed. Install the application through YaST and it will install what is needed to run the application. There may be some issues with the way fonts appear, the way icons look and some other window decorations that would be resolved by loading other programs and/or applications but most often the application will run. Same answer for gnome printing since CUPS doesn't care which window manager its running under. CUPS only cares about what is presented to it to print, the drivers/filters for the actual printers, etc. Stan

Stan Well, you beat me to it. I was going to wonder what I did "wrong" to get a half dozen wm's working on my box! :) Oh well, slow on the draw, I guess.

You can't run KDE and Gnome at the same time, but you *can* run Gnome *programs* under KDE. So, no need to worry - run GnuCash and be happy. It's a very good accounts package. Thanks John I assume when I install with YaST I meet all the dependences like gnome print etc. or should I install the whole gnome package? -- Russ

What you need are parts of Gnome, so go ahead and install Gnome. You can use GNUCash under KDE.
