Kernel errors using cdda2wav in SuSE 7.2 against 2.4.7 kernel
[CC'ed to SuSE ML] Hi there, I understand you are the maintainer of the CDR tools packages. I have just upgraded my kernel from 2.4.4 to 2.4.7 and now I always get these errors when running cdda2wav
cdda2wav -D "0,0,0" -J -g -Q -H -v1 Type: ROM, Vendor 'TDK ' Model 'CDRW121032 ' Revision '1.02' MMC+CDDA 724992 bytes buffer memory requested, 4 buffers, 75 sectors Read TOC size failed.
This gives kernel errors as follows: Dec 8 23:06:42 helios kernel: failed. Dec 8 23:06:42 helios kernel: __alloc_pages: 3-order allocation failed. Dec 8 23:06:42 helios kernel: __alloc_pages: 2-order allocation failed. Dec 8 23:06:42 helios kernel: __alloc_pages: 1-order allocation failed. Dec 8 23:06:42 helios kernel: __alloc_pages: 0-order allocation failed. and loads more repeated like that. ++ I rebuilt all the cdrtools packages from the source rpms and reinstalled them after the kernel upgrade just to make sure. ++ The above error about Reading TOC size happens on an empty disk. If I run it on a disc that has contents I still get all the kernel errors described but the output of cdda2wav changes to:
cdda2wav -D "0,0,0" -J -g -Q -H -v1 Type: ROM, Vendor 'TDK ' Model 'CDRW121032 ' Revision '1.02' MMC+CDDA 724992 bytes buffer memory requested, 4 buffers, 75 sectors Read TOC CD Text failed (probably not supported). #Cdda2wav version 1.10_linux_2.4.7-4gb_i686_i686 real time sched. soundcard support Tracks:11 75:33.25 CDINDEX discid: odibvC2qwPBjiBozo_IQEoUlfD8- CDDB discid: 0xa411b30b CD-Text: not detected CD-Extra: not detected Album title: '' from '' T01: 0 6:52.50 audio linear copydenied stereo title '' from ''
So it still says a read CD text failed with the explanation that it's
probably unsupported, but the tracks show ok.
I can still burn CDs correctly but these are quite disturbing errors to get
nevertheless.
I thought it would be worth telling you this since SuSE has recommended that
all users of SuSE 7.1 and 7.2 carry out an upgrade to 2.4.7 to fix a glaring
security hole, so this is likely to become the default kernel for many SuSE
users.
Note that the 2.4.4 kernel does *not* give any errors with cdda2wav.
Regards,
