Camera Cannot Be Opened by Normal Users
I have a Canon Powershot S50 camera that had been working fine under 9.3 with Digikam and gtkam. As my own normal user account I was able to connect to the camera via usb and download images, and even erase images on the camera. Something seems to have changed since updating from 9.3 to 10.0 though. My normal user (as well as a brand new test user I created) can no longer connect to the camera using either digikam or gtkam. Root, however, can connect and do all the normal manipulations of the camera. This must be some type of permissions issue then, but with 10.0's change from hotplug to udev, I have no clue how to troubleshoot it. I have tried using strace, but it gives me 52,000 lines of output, none of which contain the string "usb". Anyone else having usb camera issues since upgrading to 10.0? Thank you Michael -- San Francisco, CA

Check the output of /sbin/resmgr list with the camera attached. Also make sure the "hal-resmgr" RPM is installed after upgrade. Ciao, Marcus

Thanks. Here it is. I don't see anything that looks like a usb camera there. # /sbin/resmgr list r--- /dev/console rw-- /dev/mixer1 rw-- /dev/snd/controlC1 rw-- /dev/audio1 rw-- /dev/dsp1 rw-- /dev/snd/pcmC1D0c rw-- /dev/adsp rw-- /dev/audio rw-- /dev/dsp rw-- /dev/mixer rw-- /dev/snd/controlC0 rw-- /dev/snd/pcmC0D0c rw-- /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p rw-- /dev/snd/pcmC0D1c rw-- /dev/snd/pcmC0D2c rw-- /dev/snd/pcmC0D2p rw-- /dev/snd/pcmC0D3p rw-- /dev/midi rw-- /dev/snd/midiC0D0 rw-- /dev/amidi rw-- /dev/snd/midiC0D1 rw-- /dev/sequencer2 rw-- /dev/sequencer rw-- /dev/snd/seq rw-- /dev/snd/timer rw-- /dev/input/event2 rw-- /dev/hdb rw-- /dev/hda rw-- /dev/fd0

This version is installed: hal-resmgr-0.1_SVNr59-2 Thank you Michael -- San Francisco, CA

I have a Canon PS S45 and have no problems connecting to 10.0.
